There are three steps to how search engines work: crawling -  is the discovery stage; indexing - is the filing stage, and ranking - is the retrieval stage.

The Three Essential Pillars of SEO

When it comes to broader SEO, Though SEO changes frequently in small ways, its key principles do not. There are three important pillars: Technical SEO, on-page SEO, and off-page SEO.

    Technical Optimization:

Technical Optimization is the process of completing technical activities on your backend site that is designed to improve SEO but are not related to the actual content of the website. It often happens behind the scenes.

    On-Page SEO:

On-page SEO is the process of optimizing the content on a website that is relevant and provides a great user experience in order to rank higher and earn more relevant traffic from search engines.

    OFF Page SEO:

Off-page SEO is a powerful SEO tactic that plays a large part to improve a website's or page's rankings higher on Google in relevant search results. Off-page SEO is about, among other things, link building, social media, local citations, and more.

    HOW DOES SEARCH ENGINE WORK

    1. Crawling :

The crawler process of a search engine discovers what pages exist on the web as well as the new and changed content on the web. There isn't a central registry of all web pages, so Google continuously keeps track of changes or updated pages and adds them to its list of known pages. To simplify this process, it’s enough for you to know that the job of these software crawlers (spiders) is to scan the Internet and find the servers (web servers) hosting websites. This process is known as "URL discovery". Some pages are known by google because Google has already visited them. Other pages are discovered when Google follows a link (either pointing to pages within the site or to external websites) from a known page to a new page and thus it finds more and more pages.

    2. Indexing :

After a page is discovered, Google tries to understand the data of the page and keeps adding them to its index. Indexing is a massive library that store all the discovered URLs and it includes processing and analyzing the title and description of the page, key content tags and attributes, associated keywords, images, videos, etc. The information identified by the crawlers needs to be well-formed, sorted and stored so that search engine algorithms process it before made available to the end-user. So if your website is not indexing, it will not appear for any searches.

    3. Ranking :

The third and final step in the process for search engines is to decide which pages to show When a user enters a query. Google then scans through the indexed pages that obviously crawled to give the best result. This process is called ranking, or the ordering of search results from most relevant to least relevant to a particular query. To determine relevance, search engines use hundreds of factors, which could include information such as the user's location, search history, Language, and device. This is how Google works to give the search results to the audience after going through simple, yet complicated process.
